Great way to hire a Limo
history of limousines
Limousines have been in existence since the 1700's, although maybe not looking the same the whole time they have been around. A chauffeured vehicle has always been a concept used for the wealthy. Starting as carriages driven by horses, they were glided in gold and driven by the finest of horses that could be found.
The word Limoges, a province in France, is the word that started the revolution of the limousine. The word limousine is the adjective, in feminine form, of the word Limoges. The one thing that made limousines, or horse drawn carriages at this point in time, different from other vehicles was the fact that the person driving the carriage was in a completely separate area than the other passengers.
In 1902, the first engine powered limousine came about and the driver sat outside of the limo under a covered canopy while driving it. The reason the word limousine is used to describe these vehicles is because the part the driver would sit in looked very much like the hooded cloaks that people would wear who lived in Limoges.
Sometime around 1928 the first stretch limousine was created in Arkansas. These limousines were primarily used to take leaders of big bands, their orchestra (if they had one), and their instruments where they needed to be and this is why they were referred to as the "big band buses".
Limousines started to be used to take guests from hotels to the airport and on sight seeing trips in the late 1930's as they became more and more popular. They were then at this time being called "Airport Stretch Coach". When the movie industry saw the popularity of the limousine rising they started to use them right away. The limos on movie sets would be used to carry around the crew and actors/actresses to where they needed to be and the actors actually started to personally use them as that was a symbol of being a big star.
The six door limousine, mainly used for funerals, was soon invented. The limousine is often used also because of the law that the government put into place regarding drinking and driving. Passengers in a vehicle are not allowed to have an open container of alcohol unless they are completely separated from the driver. This is where limousines come into play with those who want to have a glass of wine or champagne while on the road to an event or romantic evening, or whatever the case may be.
The limousine is very much in use today not only to take the rich and famous where they need to go but to also take larger groups of people to a destination. These types of vehicles are used for things such as proms and groups who are going to a club for the night. Different vehicles are now being used also to make stretch limos, making them even more popular as time goes by.
Not only are there different types of limos like the Escalade and Chrystler, but there are also armored limos. This type of limousine is essential for people like the President of the United States, who is often transported in a limousine to where he needs to be.
The limo is available to many different types of people for any reason they may want to use one.
